The Carmignano Riserva “Piaggia”, from the eponymous Tuscan winery, is the iconic wine of the estate, the one that best represents the character of the territory and the company style. According to the ancient tradition of the denomination, the cuvée blends the personality of Sangiovese with the elegance and structure of the main Bordeaux grape varieties, creating a harmonious, intense, and complex combination. The extraordinary quality of the grapes, coming from rigorously selected prestigious parcels, is preserved thanks to careful and delicate winemaking, which has the sole aim of highlighting the expression of a historical Tuscan wine terroir.
“Piaggia” Carmignano Riserva is the result of the work of one of the flagship wineries of the denomination. Piaggia has an estate of 25 hectares, of which 15 are planted with vines, in the beautiful hilly area near Poggio Caiano. The wine is born from a blend based on a majority percentage of Sangiovese, integrated with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. The vineyards are cultivated at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level.sea, with a bright exposure facing southwest. The soils are composed of clay rich in galestro and are particularly suitable for red grape varieties. At the end of the harvest, the grapes of the different varieties are vinified separately with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts and a maceration period on the skins of about twenty days. The wine matures for at least 18 months in French oak barriques and is bottled without filtration and clarification, to preserve its integrity.
The red Carmignano Riserva "Piaggia", made by the Piaggia estate, is a wine for long aging, which reaches expressive maturity and full aromatic evolution only after a few years of aging in the cellar. It is a bottle to be enjoyed with high-quality red meats or game. It presents a deep red color with garnet reflections and on the nose expresses complex aromas of small dark berries, hints of underbrush, humus, blonde tobacco, dark chocolate, and soft spices. Structured and enveloping, it perfectly combines a mature tannic texture and dense aromas, giving the sip remarkable taste persistence.
