The Chardonnay Riserva 'Curlan' is the most precious white wine in the range of labels offered by the South Tyrolean winery Girlan, distinguished by its elegance and aromatic breadth. This Chardonnay is part of the 'Solisti' collection, a selection that encompasses the flagships of the winery, endowed with a unique and unrepeatable character and extraordinary longevity. The 'Solisti' wines effectively express the link between terroir, grape variety and producer, the result of careful study in both agronomy and oenology.
The Chardonnay Girlan 'Curlan' Riserva is a 100% Chardonnay from 20-25 year old vines planted in two selected plots in the Girlan sub-zone, located on the Gschleier and Schreckbichl hills, respectively, at an altitude between 450 and 500 metres above sea level. The exposure is east and west, while the soils consist of a layer of gravel and moraine deposits lying on volcanic porphyritic rock. Following manual harvesting, the whole bunches are subjected to a gentle pressing, with the must thus obtained, which after a brief natural sedimentation is transferred to barriques, one third new. Here, alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation and maturation on the fine lees takes place for approximately 12 months, followed by a further 8 months resting on the lees in stainless steel and then one year of bottle ageing before final release.
The colour of the Alto Adige Chardonnay 'Curlan' Riserva from the Girlan winery is an intense golden yellow. Clear and rich perceptions of citrus and peach in syrup present the olfactory range together with vivid saline mineral hints, light lactic hints of butter and fine woody sensations. The entry on the palate is intense, complex and rounded, with the pleasant savouriness and marked freshness emerging in the second half as a prelude to the long persistent epilogue.
