Cometa is a Sicilian white wine that arises from the desire of the Planeta winery to create a great product made from grapes cultivated in southern Italy, capable of competing with the most prestigious whites in the world. This desire gave rise to the experimental journey that began in the 1990s with Fiano, a noble and ancient variety from Campania. Thus, this is the genesis of Cometa, a label that best expresses the characteristics of this grape variety, where intense aromas, excellent structure, and elegance reveal the happy union between grape and territory. A reference white for the entire winemaking of southern Italy, to be savored to the last drop.
The Cometa wine is made from the pure use of a great white grape variety originating from Campania, and widely cultivated throughout southern Italy, Fiano. The grapes, once harvested and taken to the winemaking facilities of Planeta, are destemmed and gently pressed, fermenting alcoholically in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 15 degrees. The wine then remains to mature on the fine lees for several months, after which it is ready to be bottled and marketed.
This Cometa is a wine that, in the glass, takes on a straw yellow color, characterized by slight greenish reflections. The nose is engaging, where broad floral aromas alternate with fruity sensations and nuances, with a slight touch of aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is full-bodied, refined, and harmonious, with a sip of pleasant freshness; it finishes with a persistent aftertaste. A Sicilian white signed by Planeta, ready to drink, which also lends itself to a gentle evolution over the next few years, to be paired with dishes where the sea is the protagonist.
