The Corinto from Tenuta di Castellaro is a red wine from the Aeolian Islands characterized by great energy and intense underbrush aromas. An ancient indigenous grape variety introduced by the Phoenicians and usually used as a simple blending grape, it is presented here in purity, vinified and aged in French oak barrels. The volcanic soil from which it comes emerges with great elegance and minerality on the palate, and the Mediterranean climate enriches the aromatic profile with intense and spicy notes.

The Corinto from Tenuta di Castellaro is a Sicilian wine produced from a rare red grape variety, cultivated for centuries in the small and magnificent archipelago of the Aeolian Islands and most likely introduced to Sicily by the Phoenicians. Generally vinified in blend with other local grapes, Corinto Nero is offered in purity to highlight its unique varietal characteristics. On the nose, intense aromas of berries and ripe red fruit prevail, accompanied by spicy nuances. The palate is rich and harmonious, with juicy fruit, fine tannins, and good final persistence.

The red Corinto is born in the splendid territory of Lipari, a small island in the Aeolian archipelago. Tenuta di Castellaro consists of several plots cultivated in various areas of the island, differing from each other in soil characteristics: Vigna Maggiore, Lisca, Lisca Alta, Caolino, and Gelso. About twenty hectares in total, of which nine are planted with vines, all with indigenous grapes from the area. The vineyards are planted on volcanic soils rich in sands, pumice, obsidian, and numerous mineral substances. The climate, Mediterranean, warm, and breezy, is mitigated by sea breezes, allowing the grapes to ripen perfectly, also thanks to the presence of good temperature excursions between day and night. The vineyard of Corinto Nero is located at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level, on volcanic soils rich in sands and is cultivated as a bush vine. The harvest is manual, with selection of the best bunches in the vineyard. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels with skin maceration of over 10 days. The wine rests for a year in 500-liter barrels and completes its aging with 12 months in bottle.

The Corinto wine represents a meritorious endeavor of Tenuta di Castellaro, which aimed to create a small journey back in the history of Sicilian winemaking, to gift us a rare and precious wine that takes us back to the period of the first Phoenician colonization of the island. In the glass, it presents a red color with violet reflections. On the nose, it expresses aromas of ripe red fruit, small dark berry wild fruits, hints of underbrush, Mediterranean scrub,
