Organic and biodynamicThe Douro Red 'Baixo Corgo' Mateus Nicolau de Almeida is a Portuguese red wine made from indigenous grape varieties, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, and Roriz. Juicy, rich, and fragrant, on the nose it expresses notes of blackberries, blueberries, and elderberries, hints of spice and underbrush, while on the palate the intensity of the fruit is perfectly balanced by a subtle tannic structure that envelops the palate on the finish. A fresh and genuine red wine, perfect for the next family barbecue!
The Douro Rosso ‘Baixo Corgo’ by Mateus Nicolau de Almeida is a Portuguese red wine with surprising lightness and tasting agility, an authentic expression of the territory. The ‘Baixo Corgo’ represents one of the three subzones of the Douro area, territories that the producer Mateus Nicolau de Almeida aims to enhance by revealing their different facets derived from varied historical, cultural, and pedoclimatic conditions. With this goal in mind, Mateus has created the ‘Trans-Douro-Express’ range, of which this label is a part, a journey to discover one of the most vocated wine-growing territories in all of Portugal.
‘Baixo Corgo’ Trans-Douro-Express Douro Rosso Mateus Nicolau de Almeida originates from a blend of traditional grape varieties Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, and Roriz, varieties cultivated following the principles of certified organic farming, integrated with biodynamic practices. The vineyard is located in the Baixo Corgo subzone, the westernmost of the Douro, which enjoys an Atlantic and Mediterranean climate and is characterized by schist soils. After manual harvesting, the bunches are vinified in red through spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in cement tanks in contact with the skins. Also in cement, the maturation phase of 8 months takes place before the final bottling.
The Trans-Douro-Express Mateus Nicolau de Almeida Douro Rosso ‘Baixo Corgo’ is a bright ruby red color. The aromatic range expresses sensations of blackberry, blueberry, and elderberry, combined with delicate balsamic and spicy notes. Soft and balanced taste, rich and dynamic, pleasantly spicy and tannic on the finish. A Douro Rosso that pairs wonderfully with mushroom-based dishes or medium-aged cheeses.
