MALVASIA 'AMPHOREUS' PARASCHOS 2019 DESCRIPTION

Paraschos' Malvasia Amphoreus is an exciting and deep orange wine, a perfect synthesis of salt, fruit and freshness. A real jewel this Istrian Malvasia, although this is not so surprising as any grape variety in the hands of Paraschos turns into a unique and engaging expression. We are in San Floriano del Collio, a municipality in the Gorizia region already known for the quality and spontaneity of the wines produced here, and there are 6 family-owned hectares owned by Evangelos and his sons. Natural balance and respect, which made it possible in 2003 to abandon the use of any chemical substance in order to achieve a single intent, which was to return a sincere narrative concerning grapes and territory. The results speak for themselves: once tried, there is no going back.

Amphoreus wine is made from pure Malvasia grapes from very old vines over 90 years old in the Lucinico and Sant'Andrea vineyards. The vines are not treated with any chemicals, a philosophy shared by many local producers, and in the cellar spontaneous fermentation takes place in terracotta amphora. Aged for 12 months in terracotta amphora with maceration on the skins, without the wine being filtered or clarified.

Amphoreus Malvasia fills the goblet with its hypnotic amber robe, edged with orange highlights. Nose with an almost boundless and irrepressible scope, although it always expresses itself with gradualness and finesse. Apricot, tobacco peach, white and yellow flowers, mineral puffs, wild herbs: the number of descriptors could expand endlessly! On tasting, the liquid reveals the texture of true superlatives, also the fruit of the old vines, joining amplitude, softness and a prodigious salinity that lengthens its persistence by leaps and bounds. Sparkling and almost otherworldly.
