"Mazzamurello" is a red of considerable structure, a unique and authentic expression of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. The long aging of 20 months in barrique adds spicy and vanilla tones to an olfactory framework of remarkable intensity and complexity, composed of ripe red fruit, licorice and balsamic notes. The taste is muscular and enveloping, harmonious and concentrated, with a very long persistence in the finish
Torre dei Beati's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva "Mazzamurello" originates from Loreto Aprutino in the province of Pescara. The winery has been family-run since 1999, and its name pays homage to the 15th-century fresco of the Last Judgment in the local church of S. Maria in Piano, where the tower of the blessed represents the final destination of souls after death. Adriana Galasso and Fausto Albanesi have revitalized old indigenous grape varieties, aiming to revalue them and create high-quality products rooted in tradition, all while showing great sensitivity towards the surrounding natural environment of their vineyards.
Since the 2000s, the vineyards of Torre dei Beati's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo "Mazzamurello" have been entirely cultivated according to organic principles, with complete respect for the vineyards' ecosystem. This ensures that the soil is fertile and well-suited for the growth of flavourful grapes. The vines are situated at approximately 250 meters above sea level and are around 40 years old. The grapes are harvested manually, and the clusters are selected in the vineyard before being placed in 20-kilogram crates. Once in the cellar, a further selection process takes place, ensuring that only the best grapes are processed. Alcoholic fermentation occurs in steel, followed by a 20-month ageing period in barriques with batonnage on the fine lees.
Torre dei Beati's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva "Mazzamurello" presents itself with an intense ruby-red colour. The aromas released are those of ripe red berries, sweet spices, and balsamic notes on the finish. On the palate, it exhibits good structure, persistence, and balance with an interesting freshness on the finish, inviting sip after sip. It pairs well with elaborately prepared red meat dishes such as beef stew and wild boar stew. It is also intriguing with pasta dishes featuring rich sauces and with aged cow's and sheep's milk cheeses. This is a wine to be shared on the family table during special occasions and anniversaries.
