Donnafugata's Etna Rosato 'Sul Vulcano' is an elegant, savoury wine with subtle aromas and refined flavours. It is a rosé made from Nerello Mascalese grapes cultivated on Etna's northern slope, characterised by a cool climate and mineral-rich soils. The elegant and fine characteristics of this variety, combined with a delicate vinification only in stainless steel, with a very light extraction, help obtaining a rosé wine with a floral and citrus profile, with a light sip that seduces thanks to its immediate pleasantness. It is a perfect wine to enjoy with fish hors d'oeuvres, with shellfish or with delicately flavoured white meats.
The wine 'Sul Vulcano' is an Etna Rosato produced by one of Sicily's most important and famous wineries. Donnafugata represents one of the companies that have contributed most to the rebirth of Sicilian wine. Founded in the 1980s, it immediately focused on quality, with the valorisation of native vines and the traditions of the area. From the first nucleus of vineyards in the area surrounding Marsala, the winery has grown considerably and today manages 322 hectares divided into 4 estates in particularly suitable areas: Contessa Entellina, Pantelleria, Vittoria and Etna. On the slopes of the volcano, it owns 35hectares of vineyards on the northern slope, in the municipalities of Randazzo and Passopisciaro, at an altitude of around 750 metres above sea level. The vines are cultivated in the Montelaguardia, Campo Re, Calderara, Allegracore and Marchesa districts, each characterised by particular soils due to the lava flows that have affected the area. The considerable temperature range between day and night and the cool and very breezy climate allow Nerello Mascalese to slowly mature in its intense aromas and fragrances.
Donnafugata's 'Sul Vulcano' is an Etna Rosato made from a selection of Nerello Mascalese grapes. After harvesting, the grapes are cold macerated for about ten hours at 10 °C, followed by soft pressing and white vinification of the must in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Before bottling, the wine rests in steel for several months. In the glass it is a soft, luminous pink. The olfactory profile is characterised by floral aromas, notes of citrus fruits, pink grapefruit, pomegranate, raspberry and hints of herbs. The palate is slender and dynamic, with a delicate fruity mouthfeel that runs towards a finish of vibrant mineral freshness. A perfect expression of volcanic wine, this is a label not to be missed!
