Etna Rosso 'Contrada Pietrarizzo' Tornatore 2021

The Etna Rosso "Contrada Pietrarizzo" is a pure Nerello Mascalese, produced in the homonymous cru of Tenuta Tornatore, historically known as one of the best for the exceptional quality of its grapes. The aging in large barrels preserves the elegant varietal profile of the noble Etna grape, leaving its characteristics based on the delicacy of small berries intact, accompanied by fine tannins and pleasant freshness. A red that amazes for its refinement and personality, marked by the typical mineral notes of volcanic sand soils.

The "Contrada Pietrarizzo" is an Etna Rosso that originates on the northern slope of the volcano, in the vineyards cultivated in the homonymous Contrada located in the territory of the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. The Nerello Mascalese is trained to a spurred cordon on the characteristic soils formed by volcanic sands, with yields per hectare that do not reach 60 quintals. After manual harvesting, the grapes are quickly transported to the winery and subjected to a manual selection on a conveyor. The fermentation takes place in truncated-conical wooden tanks, with maceration on the skins for about 10/12 days at a controlled temperature of 22/25 °C. The wine then matures in 25 hectoliter oak barrels for about a year and finishes aging with 3 months in the bottle.

“Contrada Pietrarizzo” Tornatore is the expression of a cru of particular value, which gives a Nerello Mascalese characterized by great expressive finesse, which without renouncing body and structure, brings to the fore the character of elegance of the grape and the volcanic sand soils. The color is pale ruby red. The olfactory profile expresses aromas of small red berries, floral nuances, and herbal notes. On the palate, it has good structure, with delicate fruit, refined tannic texture, and a finish of pleasant freshness and mineral hints.
