The Etna Rosso by Planeta is a subtle, fresh, and elegant wine, endowed with unmistakable volcanic minerality, vinified between steel and oak barrels. The Etna Rosso by Planeta is an elegant and fresh wine, with refined floral and fruity notes and the typical savory and mineral profile of the volcanic terroir. A pure Nerello Mascalese aged in wood and steel, it expresses the best characteristics of this great Sicilian grape variety and of a unique and extraordinary territory like that of Etna. The volcanic soils, the Mediterranean climate, refreshed by altitude and the temperature swings between day and night, are all factors that contribute to the creation of great wines, which have now established the success of Etna even at an international level.
The Etna Rosso wine comes from the Nerello Mascalese vineyards cultivated in the locality of Pietramarina, at an altitude of over 500 meters above sea level, on black lava sand soils, very rich in minerals. The vineyards are surrounded by woods and more recent lava flows and are trained to a spurred cordon, with a density of 5000 plants per hectare and yields that do not exceed 80 quintals per hectare. After the harvest, the grapes are refrigerated at 10 °C and hand-selected.hand. The best bunches, after destemming, are sent for fermentation in wooden tanks and steel vats, at a controlled temperature of 23 °C with a maceration period on the skins of a couple of weeks, during which periodic pump-overs and punch downs are carried out. After racking, the Nerello Mascalese matures in 50 hectoliter wooden tanks and in steel for 6/8 months before being bottled.
The Etna Rosso by Planeta is a Nerello Mascalese that retains the varietal characteristics of great elegance. The slight aging in wood enriches the bouquet of the wine without weighing it down with tertiary woody notes, always keeping the characteristics of the grape and the terroir in the foreground. The color is a ruby red with purple reflections. The olfactory profile opens with delicate floral notes, aromas of small berries, aromatic herbs of the Mediterranean scrub, and spices. On the palate, it has a medium structure, with a agile and fresh sip, refined aromas, and a finish on the savory and mineral notes typical of the volcanic soils of Etna.
