The Gavi del Comune di Gavi ‘Granée’ is a white wine with a fine and graceful aromatic profile produced in Piemonte by the family-run estate Batasiolo. The term “Gavi del Comune di Gavi” is reserved for those wines belonging to the generic Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin of Gavi made from vineyards located in the namesake municipality, the heart of the denomination that bears its name. The most accredited hypothesis regarding the origin of its name takes us back to the 6th century A.D., when Princess Gavia fled from the wrath of her father Clodomiro, King of the Franks, who opposed his daughter's love for a young page, seeking refuge in the village that today bears her name. The emblematic variety of the territory is Cortese, an ancient native variety appreciated for its high acidity and the refined aromas of the wines it produces.
The ‘Granée’ Batasiolo Gavi del Comune di Gavi is a 100% Cortese from vineyards planted within the municipality of Gavi on soils made up of marls and sands.Manual harvesting, carried out during the second half of September, is followed by destemming and subsequent soft pressing of the grapes, with the resulting must undergoing alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The subsequent aging phase also takes place in steel, containers in which the wine rests for several months on the lees until the final bottling.
The color of the Gavi del Comune di Gavi ‘Granée’ by Batasiolo is light straw yellow with brilliant greenish reflections. On the nose, pleasant hints of citrus and white flowers are perceived, with slight almond notes complementing. The taste is dry and refreshing, characterized by a finish of good persistence with an almond aftertaste.
