'Ghiaie della Furba' Capezzana 2020
Perfect to give as a gift“Ghiaie della Furba” is a Tuscan red wine that is intense, powerful and concentrated, born from a blend of international grape types, aged for 18 months in barriques. Rich and wide perfumes of red fruits, wild spices, Mediterranean scrubs and chocolate are the introduction to an energic, dense and structured taste, supported by important tannins
The “Ghiaie della Furba” Capezzana is a red that takes up the winning idea of focusing on blends of international grape varieties in Tuscan soil. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah indeed come together perfectly, giving life to a wine with broad and rich aromas, anticipating a sip in which the tannins dictate the rhythm of drinking without ever being too “overbearing”. A label that maintains a constant level throughout the vintages, demonstrating the excellent work done by the winery.
This “Ghiaie della Furba” is made by Capezzana starting from a blend that includes Cabernet Sauvignon along with Merlot and Syrah. These three varieties grow in soils composed of schist and clay, at about 200 meters above sea level, facing south and southwest; the vines have an average age between 28 and 40 years. The harvest is diversified depending on the variety collected, but can generally be included between the beginning of September and the beginning of October. The must ferments in steel for 7 days, macerating for a long time for another 13 days; malolactic fermentation takes place subsequently, once the wine is transferred to barriques. The final aging takes place first for 18 months in barriques, then for another 18 months in glass.
The Tuscan red “Ghiaie della Furba” by Capezzana presents itself to the eye with a typically ruby color, characterized by a strong chromatic concentration. Generous and “synthesized” the nose, which manages to offer different nuances with excellent linearity: from fruity it moves towards the Mediterranean scrub, while in the background spices mixed with hints of aromatic herbs come in. Full-bodied and muscular the entry on the palate, with a sip characterized by a warm imprint and an excellent tannic structure. A label that was born from the thought of Count Ugo Contini Bonacossi back in 1979, eager to create in the Carmignano area a blend with a typically Bordeaux grape mix; today, after forty years, one can only confirm the goodness of the intuition had by Ugo, telling a label that touches one of the highest quality peaks of all of Tuscany.
