Capezzana

The historical roots of the Tuscan winery Capezzana date back to over 1,200 years ago, as evidenced by a parchment dated 804 that reports a lease agreement for the lands of Capezzana intended for the production of wine and oil. The estate, located in Carmignano, within one of the oldest denominations in Tuscany, has been made great by the Counts Corsini Bonaccossi, a family that has managed the properties with passion and expertise since the 1920s. In previous centuries, the estate has seen numerous illustrious owners: the Cantucci, related to the Medici, the Bourbon del Monte Marquises, the Adimari Morelli, and the Franchetti Rothschild. Today, Capezzana is guided by the collaboration between the fourth and fifth generations of the winemaking family, the first represented by the siblings Beatrice, Benedetta, and Lorenzo, responsible respectively for the commercial, oenological, and oil and financial aspects, while the second is represented by Serena, responsible for hospitality, and Gaddo, involved in the agronomic part.

Within the over 75 hectares of owned vineyards, the Capezzana estate cultivates traditional grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Trebbiano Toscano, and San Colombano, in addition to international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Chardonnay. These varieties, situated at an altitude between 100 and 200 meters above sea level, are cultivated under a certified organic regime on heterogeneous soils, generally characterized by the presence of clay, schist, and galestro varying depending on the reference parcel. The alcoholic fermentation is carried out thanks to the intervention of only indigenous yeasts, mainly in stainless steel tanks in contact with the skins for the reds, while the subsequent aging takes place in barriques, tonneaux, or large Allier oak barrels. In the case of Vin Santo di Carmignano Riserva, the vinification and long maturation occur in typical wooden caratelli made of chestnut, cherry, and oak.structured and elegant Carmignano ‘Villa Capezzana’ and in the irresistible sweet version Vin Santo di Carmignano Riserva.
