Artisanal
Callmewine's FavouritesThe Grignolino d'Asti by Luigi Spertino is an iconic and identity-rich Piedmontese red wine that faithfully tells the story of the Monferrato terroir. It undergoes alcoholic and malolactic fermentations in used Slavonian oak barrels and expresses an aromatic bouquet that scents of roses and geraniums, with delicate hints of blood orange and pink pepper, revealing itself in a dry, delicate yet substantial sip, with smooth tannins and a rich fresh and savory charge.
The Grignolino d'Asti by Luigi Spertino is a Piedmontese red wine of great territorial typicity. In the lands of Monferrato, the Grignolino grape has been cultivated for centuries and produces a wine particularly appreciated for its elegant and subtle profile, its floral notes and delicate aromas. The vinification in old Slavonian oak barrels and in steel allows the wine to evolve harmoniously, preserving the characteristic varietal notes that give Grignolino a distinct and unique character and personality in the Italian wine scene. It is an atypical red, with a light color and a pleasantly light and graceful sip.
The red Grignolino d'Asti is produced in the countryside of Mombercelli, in the wonderful hilly region of Monferrato. The estate of Luigi Spertino is located in the area of Le Mandorle, an area characterized by steep slopes, where the grape varieties Barbera, Cortese, Grignolino, and Pinot Nero find their home. The Grignolino vineyards are divided into two different plots, one in Mombercelli and the other in Portacomaro, on land characterized by sandier soils. The great care in the vineyard work, the use of non-invasive vinification practices, which always seek to keep the aromas of the grapes in the foreground, allow for the creation of wines with an artisanal face, genuine and straightforward. The labels of Luigi Spertino are true interpreters of the territory and the best peculiar characteristics of the grape varieties.
The Grignolino d'Asti wine from the Piedmontese winery of Luigi Spertino is the result of vineyards managed entirely manually, without even the use of tractors, to avoid compacting the soil and compromising the natural vitality of the land. Fermentation takes place using only indigenous yeasts in exhausted Slavonian oak barrels, so there are no transfers of wood aromas to the wine. Before bottling, the wine matures for 4 months in steel tanks. In the glass, it has a light ruby red color, with coppery hues. The bouquet recalls the fragrance of geranium and rose petals, citrus aromas of blood orange, small red berry fruits, and a hint of pink pepper. The sip is dynamic and smooth, with delicate aromas, velvety tannic texture, and a pleasantly fresh finish.
