Kavalieros Sigalas 2022

The Kavalieros Sigalas is a Greek white wine with a typically territorial profile, which not only authentically describes the starting variety – Assyrtiko – but also contextualizes the territory of origin. One cannot help but be fascinated by those notes that, on the nose, evoke the infinite range of aromatic herbs that grow on the island of Santorini, just as the minerality in the mouth recalls the strength of the iodized currents that daily batter it. A pulsating wine, perfect when paired with freshly caught fish recipes.

The Kavalieros is produced by the Sigalas winery from Assyrtiko grapes, an indigenous variety of the island cultivated using the traditional basket system in a single plot aptly called “Kavalieros”, located in the village of Imerovigli in Santorini; the long canes of the vines – which are about 60 years old – are rolled on the ground to protect the clusters from the sun's rays and the winds that typically shake the island. The is volcanic, rich in magnesium and iron, with small percentages of pumice stone as well. The must ferments in stainless steel tanks, then ages for 18 months always in steel.

The white wine Kavalieros branded Sigalas presents itself to the visual examination with a bright straw yellow color, crossed by some more golden streaks at the rim. Generous is the impact of the aromas that spread to the nose, where hints of exotic fruit blend with references to island aromatic herbs and a background that speaks of a subdued minerality. On the palate it is medium-bodied, velvety, with a concentrated sip in which freshness and sapidity alternate in a balanced and harmonious play of flavors. A label that tells the story of one of the most beautiful and interesting productive realities of Greek oenology.
