Kerner 'Aristos' Cantina Valle Isarco 2023
The Kerner "Aristos" from Cantina Valle Isarco is a masterful portrait of the citrus and vibrant soul of this grape variety in Alto Adige. Bright to the eye, it displays pleasant fruity and herbal hues with nectarine, renetta apple, elderflower, and magnolia in the foreground, embraced by mineral and chalky echoes that return to the palate, supported by a fresh, balanced tasting experience with lively sapidity.
The Aristos Kerner Eisacktaler Valle Isarco is an Alto Adige white that well interprets the potential of the Kerner grape, a variety created in Germany in the early 1900s. It is an aromatic grape similar to Riesling, which, however, adds more vegetal and floral notes to its olfactory bouquet, just like those that can be sensed in this excellent interpretation provided by the winery. An interesting label to try to learn something new about a grape that, right in the Valle d’Isarco, finds its cradle of choice in Italy.
This “Aristos” Eisacktaler Valle Isarco is a pure Kerner, an aromatic grape created in Germany at the end of the 1920s. The winery cultivates it in vineyards located at an altitude between 750 and 980 meters above sea level, within parcels characterized by a shallow alluvial subsoil, mainly rich in gravel, quartz, and diorite. The grapes obtained from the destemming operations are gently pressed, and the must thus begins to ferment at controlled temperature, in steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation is not carried out. The final maturation lasts for 7 months and takes place in stainless steel.
The white wine Kerner “Aristos” Eisacktaler Valle Isarco presents itself to the eye with a straw yellow color, endowed with a pleasant brightness. The aromas that spread to the nose tell of an olfactory weave that begins with floral tones, then moves towards more fruity touches and hints of chalk. On the palate, it has a young and slender entry, incisive and round, with a sip characterized by a fresh and mineral taste, endowed with a nice persistence on the finish. A bottle that comes from strict controls, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, and that receives positive feedback from the main Italian and foreign sector critics.
