Lagrein Hofstatter 2023
The Lagrein by Hofstatter is a medium-structured still red wine, aged for 10 months in Slavonian oak barrels. The aromatic profile, characterized by typical scents of violet and forest fruits, anticipates an elegant and fresh sip, with a spicy finish and good persistence.
Hofstatter is one of the great names in quality viticulture of Alto Adige; the current owner Martin Foradori now manages the lands gathered around the historic winery of Termeno, inherited from both his paternal and maternal sides. It was Foradori's idea to build the new section of his winery upwards, on the foundations of the old winery, next to the neo-Gothic bell tower of Termeno.
The winery, where the wines are stored and matured, is ventilated and air-conditioned with a sophisticated system. Some ventilation shafts capture the winds that descend from Roen, the mountain that overlooks Termeno, keeping the humidity levels in the winery at ideal values through this natural ventilation. A multi-layered and permeable insulation system between the inside and outside ensures the maintenance of constant temperatures. Thus, natural forces, wind and spontaneous condensation, are used to mature the wines in the tower, saving energy.
From these premises, Lagrein Hofstatter is born: the grapes destined for this wine are cultivated on gravelly soils, at the foot of Mount Sella, where the particular microclimate, due to the warm wind of the “Ora”, and the winds from the nearby Lake Caldaro, offer ideal conditions for the aromatic development of Lagrein. On this grape variety, cultivated in Alto Adige since the 13th century, Hofstatter has built part of his success. The reason? Because this Lagrein synthesizes the most authentic characteristics of the grape variety, with elegance and delicacy.
