Lagrein La Vis 2024

The Lagrein by La Vis is a red wine produced from a grape variety typical of Alto Adige, which has adapted well to the cooler and more suitable areas of Trentino. The version from the La Vis winery, which involves a minimal use of wood for aging, showcases the varietal characteristics of this grape with a strong personality. The bouquet recalls small dark berries and cherry, with spicy notes and hints of wild herbs. The palate is robust, slightly tannic, with fragrant fruit and a finish of good persistence.

The Lagrein wine is produced from an Alto Adige grape variety generated by a spontaneous crossing between Teroldego and an ancient red berry variety now unknown. It has been present for almost a century in Trentino and at the La Vis estate, cultivated on the sunniest and best-exposed hills of Pressano and Sorni, in the surroundings of Lavis, on rather deep soils made up of clays and sands. The vineyards are located at an altitude between 250 and 400 meters above sea level and are trained with simple Trentino pergola, with a planting density of 5000 vines per hectare. Manual harvesting takes place in the first weeks of October, and the grapes are then sent for fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. The wine matures on the fine lees for 5-6 months in concrete tanks, except for a small part that is aged in barrel.

The La Vis Lagrein expresses the primary characteristics of the grape very well, with its pleasantly exuberant fruit, its slightly rustic tannins, and its rich and intense notes. The color is purple-red with slight violet hues. On the nose, it expresses aromas of small dark berries, plum, cherry, vegetal hints, and underbrush. On the palate, it has a good structure, with a pleasantly rough tannic texture that supports a dense and deep fruit. The finish is well balanced with a return of spicy notes.
