Mavrotragano Mandilaria 'Mm' Sigalas 2022
“Mm” by Sigalas is a red wine from Mavrotragano and Mandilaria, two grape types from Santorini island. It is smooth, round, fresh and easy drinking, characterized by mediterannean scents of cherries, herbs, resin and eucalyptus. To pair with Greek meat dishes and very savory fishes.
The Mavrotragano Mandilaria “MM” Sigalas comes from the union of two native varieties from the island of Santorini. We are therefore faced with a perfect bottle to get to know the most typical varietals of this nation, thus having the opportunity to enhance one’s international ampelographic culture. The nose immediately tells of the Mediterranean vegetation that dominates the island, while the palate flows without any flaw. A label that deserves more than a simple tasting.
This “MM” Mavrotragano Mandilaria is made by the Sigalas winery from a blend of two grape varieties whose initials stand out on the label, Mavrotragano – present in the final blend at 60% – and Mandilaria. These two varieties grow using the basket system, perfect for protecting the grapes of each plant from the sun and the winds that constantly hit the island. The must obtained from the gentle pressing of the grapes ferments both in steel and in barrique – for a small part of the total mass – macerating in contact with the skins. The aging lasts a short time, a few months, and takes place both in steel and in barrique.
The Mavrotragano Mandilaria “MM” Sigalas presents itself to the eye with a typically ruby color, characterized by a concentrated hue. Refreshing and Mediterranean is the range of notes that envelops the nose, where more fruity sensations and light balsamic hints can be perceived. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, decidedly enveloping on the palate thanks to a delicate sip, which flows easily also due to the tannic structure finely integrated into the overall structure. A bottle that can be kept in the cellar for three or four years, thus having the opportunity to taste it in a more evolved version.
