The Merlot from Casale del Giglio is a Lazio interpretation of this internationally renowned grape variety. Vinified in steel and aged for 12 months in barrique, it presents itself in the glass with a bright ruby color, emanating aromas of cherry in spirit, licorice, and black pepper on the nose. A rich sip, medium-bodied, with a slightly oaky finish.

The Merlot from Casale del Giglio is a Mediterranean version of the famous Bordeaux grape, which has proven to adapt very well to the climate and soils of the Agro Pontino. The proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea ensures constant ventilation, which mitigates temperatures and allows the grapes to achieve perfect ripeness. It is a full-bodied and intense red, aged traditionally in barriques to enhance its complexity and its natural elegance and varietal harmony.

The red Merlot from the Casale del Giglio winery arises from the desire to revive the custom of cultivating this famous Bordeaux grape, which was introduced in the lands of Agro Pontino by Venetian colonists, who came to Lazio to carry out reclamation work around the 1920s. A tradition that has been renewed with an in-depth study on clones, rootstocks, and planting forms, which has led to very interesting results. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, using pump-overs and délestage or the submerged cap technique.submerged and longer macerations, in case one wants to obtain wines of greater structure, depending on the characteristics of the different vintages. The wine matures for a period of 12 months in oak barriques and completes the aging process with another six months of aging in bottle before being put on sale.

The Casale del Giglio Merlot is one of the flagship reds of the winery, which has managed to give an interpretation of the grape that is faithful to the characteristics of the territory, seeking to enhance the local peculiarities, without taking the easy and banal route of a vaguely international and anonymous profile. The color is intense ruby red, with slight youthful violet hues. On the nose, it is characterized by aromas of ripe red fruit, cherries in alcohol, black pepper, spices, and hints of licorice root. On the palate, it has a good body, with rich and harmonious aromas that unfold smoothly on a silky tannic texture, capable of guiding the sip towards a persistent finish and great taste balance.
