The Merlot “Fihl” is a red wine made from Merlot originating from South Tyrol. It presents itself with a garnet color and slight nuances that shift towards violet. The aromatic bouquet varies across many types of fragrances, such as berries, balsamic hints of eucalyptus, and sweet cocoa. The taste is enveloping, accompanied by a soft tannin and slight freshness.

The Merlot “Fihl” is a red wine from Alto Adige produced by Peter Dipoli, one of the most renowned vignerons in the region, known for the proverbial quality of his labels and the extraordinary international winemaking culture. It is no coincidence that his Merlot is one of the most successful interpretations of this Bordeaux grape variety in the Bassa Atesina. In this area, in fact, Merlot has found the soils and climate to express itself at high qualitative levels. A mountain red capable of blending the enveloping and elegant texture of the grape variety with the alpine territory.

The “Fihl” takes its name from the ancient designation of the locality of Villa, which is located north of Egna, where Peter Dipoli's winery is also situated. The grapes come from a small vineyard with an area of 0.4 hectares, planted with Guyot training and a planting density of 6000 vines/ha. Harvest usually takes place around mid-September. The grapes are destemmed and sent for fermentation in open steel tanks, which lasts about ten days with two daily pump-overs. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in steel and then ages in second or third passage barriques for 12 months and for an additional 4 months in cement tanks before bottling.

The red “Fihl” by Peter Dipoli is a pure Merlot of great expressive authenticity. Straightforward and direct, it expresses the classic aromatic profile of Merlot with great finesse, elegance and with the typical freshness of mountain wines. In the glass, it has a rather intense garnet red color. On the nose, it expresses aromas of small berries, balsamic hints, eucalyptus, and mountain herbs, delicately spicy nuances, almost shadowy notes of underbrush and humus. The sip is harmonious and enveloping, with well-ripened fruit, a fine tannic structure, and a pleasant final freshness.
