Monfortino Riserva Magnum Giacomo Conterno 2019
Rare wines
Perfect to give as a giftMonfortino is a Barolo that is almost mythical, absolutely majestic, considered among the best red wines in the world. It is born in the best vintages from the finest Nebbiolo grapes of the cru Francia. Vinified in wood, it matures in large barrels for over 6 years. Its aromatic profile is rich and imposing, the taste is characterized by great complexity and a sustained fresh and savory component, with endless persistence. A legendary Magnum!
Monfortino is unequivocally a true liquid legend, an absolute champion capable of rewriting the history of Barolo and sitting at the table of the world's greatest wines. A granite monument, it is an almost immortal creature given its ability to challenge time and establish a dialectical relationship in which, after decades, it emerges even enriched. A piece of Langa, deep and territorial, just like the winery founded by the Conterno family in 1900, which has never wavered from the classic and austere interpretation of a grape variety like Nebbiolo. The first Monfortino label appeared in 1924, highlighting the location of the vineyards situated in Monforte d'Alba, while since 1974 the wine has been entirely produced from the Vigna Francia of Serralunga D'Alba.
The Monfortino Riserva comes from a selection of the best Nebbiolo grapes located in the Francia vineyard, the same from which Barolo and Barbera Cascina Francia, other historic wines of Conterno, derive. After a meticulous selection of the bunches, the first fermentation takes place in 61-hectoliter oak vats, with long macerations even with submerged cap, as per tradition. The liquid is then transferred to large wooden casks, predominantly of Austrian origin, where after malolactic fermentation, it ages for about six years before bottling.

The nose is a poignant portrait of Langa, gradually revealed with a whispering manner. The dog rose, the violet, the cherry: everything is in this hymn to classicism, although talking about descriptors seems almost reductive given the harmony and cohesion of the aromas. The tasting is experiential, a true cyclone that conquers the palate, filling it with grace and power at the same time. The viscosity of the liquid allows it to push far away, fading into an eternal persistence. To be drunk, at least once in a lifetime. A legendary Magnum!
