Montiano Famiglia Cotarella 2021
The Montiano is a full and round red wine made from Merlot grapes, aged in new barriques for 12 months. Aromas of red fruits, vanilla, noble woods, and sweet spices compose the bouquet. On the palate, it is consistent and enveloping, elegant, and persistent.
The Montiano is one of the most famous labels produced by the Famiglia Cotarella winery. It is a prestigious red, intense and soft, made with pure Merlot grapes. The lands of Tuscia have been dedicated to viticulture for centuries, and the particular microclimate of the area allows the Bordeaux grape to reach full ripeness, with elegant fruity aromas and a particularly smooth profile, which well represents the best characteristics of this exceptional grape.
The Montiano red is the fruit of one of the most innovative estates in central Italy. The Famiglia Cotarella has been a key player in the Italian wine scene for several decades, thanks to the winemaking activities carried out by brothers Renzo and Riccardo. The estate is managed by the new generation, who passionately and competently carry on the tradition. The Merlot grapes come from company vineyards that are about 15 years old, located in Montefiascone and Castiglione in Teverina at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level. The soils are of ancient volcanic origin, rich in mineral elements and skeleton. The harvest takes place in the first weeks of September. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, with a maceration on the skins of about a dozen days and a 15% bleeding of the must. The wine matures for a period of 12 months in new French oak barriques from Allier and Never.
The Montiano wine, produced by the Famiglia Cotarella, is the synthesis of a great terroir, a noble Bordeaux grape, and the deep winemaking culture of a great brand. In a territory traditionally cultivated with white grape varieties, Merlot has found a very favorable habitat to express itself at high qualitative levels. It presents a dark ruby red color and expresses an elegant and complex bouquet, characterized by hints of vanilla and sweet spices, aromas of small dark berry fruits, currants, blueberries, blackberries, and nuances of herbal and balsamic herbs. Harmonious and seductive, it has a fine and velvety tannic texture, well integrated with fruity aromas, rich, broad, and soft. The finish is persistent and balanced.
