The Kaltern winery is a historic cooperative representing the entire municipality of the same name and its wine producers. It is the ambassador for the wines that originate around Lake Kaltern and, in particular, for the Kalterersee (Schiava) variety. These are typical wines produced by a large community with sensitivity, passion and expertise: fine, complex and wonderfully simple to love. The winery, which has its roots in the distant 1900s, has taken more than a century to become what it is today and what it represents: professionalism, passion, a sense of belonging, experience and high quality standards. Today it is one of the most important wineries in the South Tyrol region, and the wine-growing municipality of Kaltern itself, the most well-known and loved in the region, is proud of its reputation. In this small piece of land, wine is the main protagonist in the life of the community: it has given and continues to provide employment, it fills the inhabitants and growers with pride, and for many of the inhabitants it is a full-time professional commitment, pursued with great passion in many different areas, whether in the vineyards, in the cellar, in gastronomy or in sales.

The Kaltern winery is a large family with 650 winegrowing members, most of whom own less than one hectare of land (an average of 0.7 hectares, which corresponds to a football pitch), covering a total of 450 hectares. They are winegrowers by passion and love, who earn their living in other professions and dabble in the art of winegrowing in their spare time. Part of the charming atmosphere of Kaltern certainly stems from this.

The wines of Kaltern are produced in the oldest DOC area in South Tyrol and mature in the most favourable soil around Lake Kaltern. They are the result of great sensitivity, passion and the use of state-of-the-art techniques. There are three quality ranges: Quintessenz - the most important range, from the best vineyards on the estate, Selection - from carefully chosen vineyards to bring a wide array of sensations into the wine glass, and the Classics - expressing the most authentic character of the terroir and the grapes.
