Munjebel Rosso is a full-bodied and traditional expression of Nerello Mascalese and of old sapling vines from Etna. It is produced in fiberglass tanks, without additives. Intense mineral and fruity scents emerge from a long and complex taste. Wines made with Old Style Artisanal Methods
The Munjebel Rosso by Cornelissen stands as one of Frank's wines' most complex and multifaceted expressions, a fusion between imposing structure and profound salinity. Undeniably, we find ourselves in the realm of Italian artisanal wines with this interpretation, the result of old bush-trained vines located in various local districts. The Munjebel Rosso comes from a blend of these districts, unlike the single cru bottlings that bear their respective reference labels. For this reason, one cannot help but admire the skilful balancing act between the various components of the individual vineyards: the power of Monte Colla, the Burgundian finesse of Chiusa Spagnolo, and the equilibrium of the Cru Porcaria. To drink, to be moved, and never to look back: a journey in which Frank leads us with every creation, ascending Mount Etna and dominating the landscape from above. Truly imaginative.
The Munjebel is crafted from pure Nerello Mascalese grapes sourced from old bush-trained vines over 60 years of age, located in the districts of Chiusa Spagnolo, Monte Colla, Porcaria, Crasa, and Piano Daini on the northern slope of Mount Etna. No chemical or synthetic substances are ever used in the vineyard, and no treatments are applied. In the cellar, after manual harvest and careful grape selection, spontaneous alcoholic fermentation takes place in fibreglass tanks without the addition of sulfur or filtration of the liquid. It then matures for 18 months in neutral fibreglass tanks.
The Cornelissen Munjebel has a rich ruby-red colour that is particularly lively. The nose is layered and extremely deep, gradually revealing hints of blackberries, dark spices, Mediterranean scrub, and citrus zest. The term "minerality," often overused, takes on almost tangible connotations during the olfactory experience of the liquid. The palate is rich and complete, combining powerful structure, finesse, and a contribution of saltiness and freshness. A standout from Mount Etna.
