Pellegrino's Natural Sweet Wine from Pantelleria, "Nes," is a dessert wine produced with Zibibbo grapes, also known as Moscato d'Alessandria, cultivated on the volcanic soils of the island of Pantelleria. The extraordinary aromatic richness of the grapes, which concentrate flavours and sugars during sun-drying, allows for the creation of a nectar that expresses aromas of ripe fruit, honey, candied fruits, and dried fruits. It is one of our country's most famous Passito wines. It is particularly suitable for enjoying with specialities from Sicilian pastry, almond paste, or a platter of long-aged, highly flavorful, or blue cheeses.
The wine "Nes" is one of the most prestigious labels from the Sicilian winery Pellegrino, which manages more than half of the grapes from small local producers on the small volcanic island of Pantelleria. In addition to the historic estate in Marsala and the presence in Pantelleria, Pellegrino owns several estates in the western area of Sicily. The significant availability of land with diverse pedoclimatic characteristics allows for cultivating each variety in the most suitable place. Pellegrino has always worked to enhance native grape varieties, the true great heritage of Sicily, in order to give the wines a typically territorial character. The range of wines is very wide and highlights a style that primarily seeks pleasantness and easy drinkability.
Pellegrino's Natural Sweet Wine "Nes" results from the finest bunches from the bush-trained Zibibbo vines. After the harvest, the bunches are laid out on drying racks so they dehydrate, concentrating the sugars and other components of the grapes. Fermentation takes place very slowly in steel tanks. Before bottling, the wine matures for about 10 months in steel tanks. The Sweet Wine presents itself with an amber colour and bright reflections of antique gold. On the nose, it offers aromas of orange zest, ripe yellow fruit, candied fruit, dehydrated apricots, tropical hints, honey nuances, dates, and dried fruits. The palate is rich and intense, sweet and soft, with a balanced finish of great complexity and gustatory persistence.
