Pigato 'Grand-Père' Bio Vio 2020

BioVio

The Pigato "Grand-Père" by Bio Vio is a Ligurian white wine where, together with the fermentation, there is a maceration on the skins, as required by the ancient local tradition. It ages for 10 months in oak tonneaux and expresses a full-bodied and intense sensorial profile, suitable to accompany important cheeses, where the sip focuses on the rich structure, well balanced by freshness and salinity. Organic Wine

PIGATO 'GRAND-PÈRE' BIO VIO 2020 DESCRIPTION

The "Grand-Père" Pigato from the Bio Vio winery is an intense and complex white wine that originates from the splendid coastal area of the Western Ligurian Riviera in the hinterland of Albenga. It is made from the most widely cultivated white grape variety in the area, presented in an original version that draws inspiration from the oldest artisanal traditions of the region. The wine is produced through maceration with the skins and subsequent ageing in wood, a choice that gives the wine remarkable aromatic richness, a good structure, and a long, persistent, and satisfying taste.

The "Grand-Père" is the Pigato of old, which closely resembles the past's agricultural customs but is reinterpreted with great winemaking expertise by one of the most interesting producers in the Ligurian Riviera. Bio Vio is a family-owned business that has always embraced the organic farming culture. In addition to growing aromatic herbs, they cultivate a vineyard with the classic grape varieties of the region. Pigato, in particular, expresses itself in these lands with wines of high quality. The vineyards are located in the narrow strip of land between the mountains and the sea, in the Marixe and Albenga area, on soils characterized by marls rich in iron minerals. After the harvest, the grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts and undergo a long maceration with the skins. The wine is then aged for 10 months in oak tonneaux before being bottled.

The Pigato "Grand-Père" from the Ligurian Bio Vio winery is a macerated version of this historic grape variety from the Western Riviera. In the glass, it presents itself with a fascinating golden colour with slight coppery reflections and expresses dense and rich aromas reminiscent of ripe fruit, yellow peach, apricot, pineapple, notes of wild herbs from the Mediterranean scrub, wildflowers, spicy and saline hints. The palate is broad, savoury, and satisfying, with rich fruit, well-balanced by a fresh and persistent finish. It is a great white wine that pairs well with important dishes based on delicate white meats or semi-aged cheeses.
