Pigato Laura Aschero 2025
The Pigato by Laura Aschero is a fresh, fruity, and engaging white wine. It expresses notes of yellow fruit, resin, and aromatic herbs. Soft and elegant on the palate, well supported by a pleasant freshness and sapidity.
The Riviera Ligure di Ponente Pigato from the Laura Aschero winery is a white wine capable of combining body and momentum, configuring itself as a typical expression of the grape variety. Pigato is an indigenous variety from Liguria that probably originated from a genetic mutation of the more famous Vermentino, a grape with which it shares a good part of the ampelographic, oenological, and organoleptic characteristics. What distinguishes this grape variety, however, are the brownish spots that appear on the berries at ripening, hence the name "Pigato", from the Ligurian dialect term "pigau", which means "spotted".
Laura Aschero Pigato Riviera Ligure di Ponente is a 100% Pigato from vines grown on hilly soils in a Mediterranean climate characterized by good temperature excursions between day and night. In the winery, the bunches are vinified in white through soft pressing and alcoholic fermentation of the must in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of about 20 °C, reducing the contact between the must and the pomace to just a few hours, just enough to enhance the varietal aromas and accentuate the color intensity of the wine. The subsequent aging phase also takes place in steel, containers in which the mass rests for a few months on the lees.
To the eye, the Riviera Ligure di Ponente Laura Aschero Pigato shows a bright straw yellow hue with subtle golden veins. An aromatic bouquet of great charm with its clear and intense notes of ripe yellow plum, peach, broom flowers, acacia honey, sage, and forest resins. The taste is full and enveloping, rich and soft, well supported by pleasant freshness and a fine savory-mineral tone. In the finish, a characteristic and pleasant bitter note emerges.
