Pinot Grigio 'del Pompiere' Schiopetto 2024
The Pinot Grigio 'del Pompiere' by Schiopetto is a white wine from Friuli Venezia Giulia, based on an international grape variety that has now taken solid roots in the region. Schiopetto is one of the most well-known producers in the area, specializing in reds and especially in whites that call this territory home. This Pinot Grigio presents hints of yellow fruit and exotic fruit, along with very peculiar briny notes. On the palate, it is fresh, with a savory profile that is almost marine, making it perfect for many different pairings.
The Pinot Grigio 'del Pompiere' is configured as a flavorful and balanced white wine produced in Friuli by the renowned winery Schiopetto. With the 'del Pompiere' line, this famous winery based in Capriva del Friuli, in the province of Gorizia, aims to showcase the fresher and more accessible character of the grape varieties that have made Friulian winemaking great, including Pinot Grigio, produced under the 'del Pompiere' label for the first time with the 2014 vintage. This line pays homage to the Osteria ai Pompieri, a historic establishment owned by the Schiopetto family where the founder Mario developed his passion for wine. Coincidentally, before the winery became successful, Mario also worked as a firefighter, sometimes using the fire truck to deliver his wine.
For the production of the Schiopetto Pinot Grigio 'del Pompiere', only Pinot Grigio grapes from vineyards owned and younger than 20 years are used. Following the harvest, carried out by hand between the end of August and the beginning of September, the bunches are transferred to the winery and pressed with great delicacy and speed, in order to avoid the release of the characteristic coppery color of Pinot Grigio. The must obtained is then channeled into stainless steel tanks for low-temperature alcoholic fermentation, followed by aging for at least 4 months always in steel.
The Pinot Grigio 'del Pompiere' has a brilliant straw-yellow hue with subtle golden reflections. On the nose, lively aromas of pineapple, lemon zest, green apple, peach, and rosehip succeed one another, supported by salty mineral hints. On the palate, it shows good complexity and finesse, with pleasant freshness and pronounced sapidity taking center stage, without interfering with the overall balance of the wine. The finish then reveals an excellent taste-aromatic correspondence.
