The Pinot Nero Riserva “Renaissance” is the qualitative and elegant elevation of Pinot Nero signed by Gumphof. The Alto Adige winery is located in the area south of the Isarco Valley, more precisely at the foot of the Sciliar massif. Here, the terroir conditions take on unique characteristics: the alternation of daytime winds from Lake Garda with nighttime winds from the Dolomites, the vineyards composed of river gravel that enjoy excellent sun exposure, the extremely steep slopes, and the soils endowed with a precious mineral profile. All of this contributes to defining the finesse of Gumphof wines. In the “Renaissance,” the finesse qualities of the Pinot Nero variety are exalted in the utmost of their expression and complexity.
The Riserva “Renaissance” is obtained from pure Pinot Nero grapes, sourced from vineyards located at an altitude between 400 and 500 meters above sea level. They are situated on morainic limestone soils that plunge into the valley with steep slopes. The harvested grapes undergo a gentle pressing and the the obtained must is placed to ferment. The alcoholic fermentation takes place both in steel and in wood, while the aging period occurs in barrique for a duration of 18 months.
The Gumphof Pinot Nero Riserva “Renaissance” presents a bright, lively garnet red color. Its aroma is intense and complex; it shifts from sour cherries to compote of berries, from a bouquet of red flowers to wild spices, with an earthy note of humus and underbrush. The taste is elegant: the sip is precise and shows the geometric facets of freshness and sapidity. It opens into a spicy composition that lingers long in the mouth. “Renaissance” is the elegance of mountain Pinot Nero.
