Poggio Tura Vigne dei Boschi 2020
Artisanal
Callmewine's FavouritesIl Poggio Tura is a full-bodied and deep interpretation of Sangiovese, aged for 24 months in second-pass barriques. It is a red wine with a broad and mineral bouquet of berries and spices, and a long, powerful, and structured taste, with good tannins.
The Poggio Tura of Vigne dei Boschi is an authentic and refreshing expression of Sangiovese from Romagna, a providential ally on the everyday table. Katia and Paolo Babini are one of the rare cases where the liquids produced are a faithful reflection of those who produce them, and therefore genuine and straightforward. An upland immersed in the Romagna woods is the splendid setting that surrounds the vineyards of Katia and Paolo, located in Valpiana Brisighella, where Sangiovese, Albana, Trebbiano, Pagadebit, and even a bit of Riesling express themselves particularly brilliantly. The approach in the vineyard is aimed at absolute respect for nature, therefore chemical or synthetic products are banned, while in the winery, spontaneous fermentations and long macerations continue. Vital and dynamic liquids that enhance everyday cooking and probably cannot be separated from it. A guaranteed centerpiece.
The Vigne dei Boschi Poggio Tura is obtained from pure Sangiovese grapes, coming from a single vineyard called Vigna del Roccolo, with vines trained in the alberello style on marl and limestone soil, and an east-facing exposure. The vineyard, like all the others owned by Paolo and Katia, are cultivated according to the principles of organic farming and part of biodynamic farming. In the winery, after the harvest which is rigorously carried out by hand, spontaneous fermentation takes place in steel tanks, and maceration on the skins lasts about a month. The aging of the liquid occurs for 24 months in second-pass barriques and at least another 12 in the bottle.
The Poggio Tura wine fills the glass with its deep ruby red color. A first olfactory impression that sketches a dark-hued picture, where distinct hints of blackberry, leather, clove, and cocoa stand out. Despite the simplicity of the profile, it impresses with its clarity and definition. On the palate, the wine reveals its rather rich body, supported by a perfectly integrated tannic structure and a generous dose of sapidity and freshness. Without filters, nor any hairs on the tongue, it is a wine that transports you for its almost old-fashioned character.
