Primaronda' Torrevento 2024
Unusual grapesThe Rosé "Primaronda" Torrevento is produced from 100% Nero di Troia grapes within the Alta Murgia National Park by the winery of Francesco Liantonio. It ferments in stainless steel tanks that preserve the varietal characteristics. It has a fresh and drinkable personality, expressing hints of red and exotic fruits, wild strawberries and cherry with a slight herbaceous finish.
The “Primaronda” Torrevento is a rosé with a fresh and captivating personality. This winery was born from the small fortune gathered by grandfather Francesco, who emigrated to America in the early 1900s and returned to Italy with the proceeds necessary to start the project that his grandson, entrepreneur and namesake, Francesco Liantonio, in collaboration with winemaker Leonardo Palumbo, has developed over the years. This winery has its roots at the foot of Castel del Monte, a Benedictine monastery with 57 hectares of vineyards in the heart of the Alta Murgia National Park. The lands are rugged and stony, suitable for the valorization of native grape varieties, among which we find Bombino Bianco, Bombino Nero, and Nero di Troia.
Torrevento for the production of “Primaronda” exclusively uses Nero di Troia grapes grown at an altitude of 350 meters, on medium clayey-calcareous soils, and harvested towards the end of September or during the first ten days of October. It undergoes a soft pressing followed by a controlled temperature fermentation. The color and aromatic characteristics remain intact, thus characterizing both the agronomic variety and the full expressiveness of the territory. The wine is aged exclusively in steel for about 4 months.
The “Primaronda” from the Torrevento winery presents itself with a tender, almost childish pink, with barely hinted violet reflections. The strongly fruity aromas stand out, with wild strawberries, almost unripe cherries, and pomegranate, with a slight hint of exotic fruits that are evoked by the fresh and pleasant tasting, with a good varietal intensity and a drinkable sapidity. It is pleasantly versatile and can be paired mainly with appetizers or fresh cheeses, fish, and white meat. An excellent expression, almost unexpected, for a rugged Puglia that manages to manifest itself with such a delicate and almost naive language, making it sweet and pleasant.
