Ravello Rosso Riserva Marisa Cuomo 2020
The Ravello Rosso Riserva by Marisa Cuomo is a rich and full-bodied red wine that combines the Mediterranean savor typical of the Amalfi terroir with a solid and important structure. It is produced from Piedirosso and Aglianico, with aging of 12 months in barrels and 36 in bottle. It expresses itself with elegance and complexity, offering notes of berries, sour cherries, roots, and sweet spices.
The Ravello Rosso Riserva by Marisa Cuomo is one of the extraordinary gems to drink that the Costa di Furore offers us, where beautiful vineyards cling to the cliffs overlooking the Gulf of Salerno. A wine conceived and produced with all the tenets of heroic viticulture where the toil, ingenuity, and hard work of man prevail and tame the schizophrenic design of nature. Wine produced with 70% Piedirosso grapes, locally called Pere e’ Palummo (due to the pigeon-footed bunch) and with the remaining 30% Aglianico.
The Ravello Rosso Riserva by Marisa Cuomo sees its vines thriving on coastal terraces at 300 meters above sea level with a south/south-west exposure in the areas of the municipalities of Ravello and Scala. The soil is made up of dolomitic-limestone rocks, capable of giving that decisive spicy push and positively rigid character typical of the wines from the area. The manual harvest occurs only at the moment of maximum ripeness of the grapes (the last decade of October), then they are pressed and destemmed, undergoing an intense maceration fermentation for about 20 days. The malolactic fermentation occurs inside new French oak barriques followed by 12 months of aging, still in barrel.
Marisa Cuomo with her Ravello Rosso Riserva presents a wine with an intense red color and garnet reflections that, when brought to the nose, explodes with all its richness: the sweetness and freshness of sour cherries and berries are supported and enriched by delicate spiciness and hints of vanilla that close the aromatic bouquet. The desire to savor the Ravello Rosso Riserva by Marisa Cuomo overwhelms us, and we are not disappointed once the Piedirosso, in collaboration with Aglianico, floods the palate, coating it with softness and roundness that is hard to forget. A good sapidity, aided by soft yet firm tannins and a tenacious freshness, makes the sip taut and deliciously drinkable. If you are looking for a wine born from the toil of man, capable of extracting the best from the harshness of Mother Nature, full of aromas and flavors from a land that can astonish with its beauty and gastronomic versatility… then here is Marisa Cuomo with her Ravello Rosso Riserva, the destination to pause at.
