The Refosco Black Label is one of the flagship bottles of Uroš Klabjan, produced from vines that are over a century old of the same variety. We are in Istria, Slovenia, within a valley overlooking the Gulf of Trieste and caressed by the Adriatic sea breezes, which help create an ideal microclimate for quality viticulture. The winery embraces a biodynamic production philosophy, aimed at allowing the terroir to express itself freely without altering the delicate balances that underlie it, in order to provide pure and genuine interpretations capable of telling the story of the Istrian territory.
Klabjan produces the Black Label Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso from vineyards of the same variety aged between 50 and 150 years, cultivated on ungrafted vines in white soils rich in marls according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. The artisanal approach is also adopted in the winery with spontaneous alcoholic and malolactic fermentation and a month-long maceration on the skins. The very prolonged aging period includes a rest of as much as 4 years in oak barrels of multiple passages, in order to favor the natural evolution of the wine without adding invasive organoleptic perceptions.
To the eye, the Klabjan Refosco Black Label from Istria presents an interesting velvety red color. On the nose, it reveals great complexity with notes of cherry, berries, tobacco, dried fruit, and spices, a richness of sensations that is found in the enveloping and fresh taste, with a velvety tannic structure. A gastronomic red that, due to its structure and characteristics, pairs perfectly with succulent dishes based on red meats, game, and wildfowl. A label capable of fully expressing the personality of a man and the land he cultivates.
