A winning bet for the Almondo winery, the 'Sassi e Sabbia' is a Riesling that pays homage to its terroir of origin and outlines citrus and herbal aromatic notes laid on a delicately balsamic and clear background. Brilliant tension on the palate, mineral interludes, and a perfect balance on the palate between freshness and consistency

The Riesling “Sassi e Sabbia” is a white wine that comes from the desire of the Giovanni Almondo winery to engage with a grape variety that does not traditionally belong to the Piedmontese winemaking tradition. An interesting challenge that led to the creation of this label with a modern and youthful approach, where freshness and sapidity are well balanced on the palate, while the nose perceives a wealth of varied aromas that reveal the different souls of the grape and the territory. A label that performs well at the table both with the most classic fish dishes and with recipes where white meat, cooked with light preparations, takes center stage.

The “Sassi e Sabbia” is a Riesling made from grapes cultivated by the Giovanni Almondo winery on sandy, clayey, gypsum, and limestone soils. We are located about 360 meters above sea level, in parcels exposed to the east. The must obtained from pressing the grapes is cold macerated for about 12 hours, and then fermented in steel containers. The aging phase is in cement tanks for 8 months, until the wine is considered ready for bottling.

The Riesling “Sassi e Sabbia” by Giovanni Almondo reveals itself visually with a typically straw-yellow color. The olfactory spectrum is orchestrated around slightly citrus and balsamic notes, from which a hint of aromatic herbs also emerges. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, soft, with a sip that has a good balance between freshness and minerality. It finishes with a finish characterized by a savory aftertaste. A label with which the Giovanni Almondo winery steps out of the panorama of classic Piedmontese whites to dedicate itself to an international grape that in recent years has been finding space within the regional borders.
