Rocca di Frassinello 2020
The Rocca di Frassinello is a red wine with character, energy, body and structure. It is born in Maremma from Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes and ages for 14 months in barrique. An elegant, Mediterranean and deep bouquet of fruit and sweet spices accompanies an intense, soft and persistent sip.
The Rocca di Frassinello is a true fusion of freshness and elegance, a Supertuscan capable of competing on equal terms with the great Bordeaux wines. Since its first vintage, which took place in 2004, the wine Rocca di Frassinello has established itself as a reference in its category, and even Christian Le Sommer, the winemaker of the legendary Domaine Baron de Rothschild-Lafite, describes it as a wine of great competition, precisely to emphasize its so alluring and international style. Located in the heart of Maremma, between Bolgheri and Scansano, the project consists of the union between the experience of Paolo Panerai, founder of the Castellare di Castellina winery, and the owner of Domaine Baron de Rothschild so that the perfect knowledge of the local flagship grape, namely Sangioveto, is combined with the contribution of international varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet, Petit Verdot, and Shiraz.
The red Rocca di Frassinello is a blend mainly composed of Sangiovese, and equally from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards are located in Gavorrano in the province of Grosseto, and rest on clayey soils of medium texture. The vines that give life to this Supertuscan are only two: the Vigna Vecchia and the Vigna Eucalipti, both cultivated with low yields to favor quality and concentration of the fruit. The vinification takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperature and after the malolactic fermentation, the liquid ages in barriques new at 80% for a period of about 14 months. After 11 months of further aging in the bottle, the wine is ready to be marketed.
The wine Rocca di Frassinello presents itself in the glass with an intense ruby hue edged with garnet reflections. The nose does not hide its richness made of plum jam, cloves, and chocolate as well as balsamic notes provided by the contribution of Merlot and Cabernet. The sip is a synthesis of power and velvet, material and perfectly balanced by sweet tannins and great softness. Deep and with long persistence, it calls for important pairings such as aged cheeses, game dishes, and well-seasoned red meats. Charm and class.
