Rosato 'Il Rogito' Cantine del Notaio 2023
The Rogito by Cantine del Notaio is a rosé wine from Basilicata made from Aglianico grapes, of medium structure, aged for 12 months in barriques. Rich, intense and slightly spicy on the nose, on the palate it is soft, fresh and enveloping, enriched by elegant floral notes, balanced and persistent
The Rogito from Cantine del Notaio highlights the eclectic character of Aglianico, capable of being vinified as a rosé with brief macerations, as in this case, while preserving the tenacious characteristics of the grape, also thanks to the skillful aging in wood. Numerous historical testimonies pay tribute to Aglianico rosé: one among them is that of the philosopher and physician Andrea Bacci, who in his "Natural History of Wines" from 1596, speaks about Aglianico as "(…) grapes that are not so black (…) and of a juice of medium consistency".
Precisely because of this great personality of the starting grape, Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti, owner of Cantine del Notaio, decided to take on this version of Aglianico, with great success. The vineyards from which the grapes used for the Rogito come are located in some of the best areas of Vulture, with some rows planted over a hundred years ago and today cultivated entirely under organic farming. The volcanic tuff characterizes the soils where Aglianico grows, giving great minerality to the wines from this area, as in the case of the rogito.
And it is precisely in the tuff that the aging cellars have been excavated, fascinating natural caves with optimal conditions of temperature, ventilation, and humidity, where the Allier barrels rest. In these woods, the Rogito matures for 12 months, reaching levels of softness that refine the great savory and spicy profile of this unusual Aglianico with great aromatic persistence.
