SAGRANTINO DI MONTEFALCO 'COLLEPIANO' CAPRAI 2018 DESCRIPTION

Caprai's "Collepiano" is a powerful and vigorous Sagrantino di Montefalco produced by the historic Arnaldo Caprai winery. This reality invested in Sagrantino di Montefalco, thanks to their intuition about the potential of this variety, even when this native grape variety was still little known on the Italian wine scene. Thus Arnaldo had the great merit of realising that this grape, if cultivated in a great territory, such as Montefalco, and vinified according to certain criteria, could give rise to an expression of extraordinary quality. 'Collepiano' is a concrete example of this, which has now become one of the most appreciated wines of this category and is a piece of the puzzle that completes the picture of great Italian reds. With this bottle, Caprai wants to immortalise the Umbrian territory in a liquid photogram and make it clear how from simple ingredients like Sagrantino grapes one can arrive at works of art through passion and commitment.

"Collepiano" Sagrantino by Caprai is the production area of this wine and refers to the rolling hills near Montefalco, a charming town in Umbria. It comes from the careful selection of only Sagrantino grapes, which are delicately transported to the winery and softly pressed to obtain a must of outstanding quality. This is followed by the vinification phase in which the grape juice, in contact with its skins for 26-28 days, is transformed into wine through the process of alcoholic fermentation. Maturation takes place in barriques for 22 months before refining in bottles for at least 8 months.

The Sagrantino di Montefalco "Collepiano" Caprai has an intense ruby red colour with violet hues. The bouquet is marked by persistent notes of ripe red fruit, dark spices and toasted hints. On the palate it expresses intensity and richness with great and decisive personality, it has vigorous tannins and is crossed by an acidic and savoury vein that sculpts a good balance. It finishes very long with spicy and fruity returns. An authoritative and prestigious signature that cannot be missing from the collection of every great wine lover!
