Salice Salentino Riserva 'Selvarossa Terra' Due Palme 2014
The Salice Salentino Riserva "Selvarossa Terra" is a Puglian red wine for meditation and conversation, crafted by the Salentine winery Due Palme. Made with Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera grapes, grown in bush training and harvested late, it rests for 12 months in oak barrels and presents itself in the glass with aromas of ripe cherry, vanilla beans, and sweet spices. The sip is full, very soft, and with fine tannins.
The “Selvarossa Terra” is a beautiful interpretation of Salice Salentino, produced by the Apulian winery Due Palme only when the vintage is truly exceptional. A great selection, first in the vineyard and then in the winery, accompanies the production of this blend, born from a late harvest of Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera. A label that clearly expresses itself, both on the nose and on the palate, where the level of alcohol gives a halo of warmth and intensity to the sip. Ideal as a meditation wine, but it can also accompany substantial and structured dishes based on meat and game.
The “Selvarossa Terra” Salice Salentino Riserva takes shape from the addition of 15% Malvasia Nera to the Negroamaro grapes. A blend that comes from old vineyards, where the plants grow with the ancient Apulian bush-trained system within soils rich in red earth and clay. The harvest is delayed, and part of the grapes, after manual harvesting, is dried inside fruit drying rooms, in order to acquire greater thickness, substance and structure. The must ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The final aging takes place for 12 months in French oak barriques and, before being released on the market, the wine undergoes an additional period of maturation in glass.
The Riserva “Selvarossa Terra” by Due Palme presents itself to the eye with a garnet color, concentrated and deep, not easily penetrable by light. The fruit, especially in the form of jammy aromas, first appears on the nose, enhanced by hints of sweet spices, chocolate, tobacco, and coffee, where a sweet, clear, and distinct note of vanilla is also perceived. On the palate, it has a virtuous, rich, and imposing body, rigorous in offering an intense structure thanks to the excellent processing of the tannin grain. The taste on the palate is fresh and warm at the same time and the tasting ends with a long and persistent finish. A label that tells the great ambitions of Apulian reds, perfect to taste to understand the immense potential of the southern Italian wine region Italian.
