The San Martino della Battaglia by Citari is a white wine produced on Lake Garda based on Tuchì, synonymous with Tocai Friulano. A great expression of the territory and its winemaking traditions, this wine impresses with great delicacy and balance, both on the palate and nose, where notes of citrus, white flowers, apple, and pear stand out.
The San Martino della Battaglia ‘Tuchì’ from the Lombard winery Citari is a fresh and balanced white wine, characterized by an almond aftertaste typical of the grape variety it is produced from: Friulano. Not surprisingly, the name ‘Tuchì’ refers to the term that once the winemakers of the San Martino della Battaglia area used to identify Friulano, a white grape variety that before the dispute with Hungary was known as Tocai. San Martino della Battaglia is instead a Denominazione di Origine Controllata reserved specifically for Friulano, with the area of competence covering a restricted area of the southern Lombard side of Lake Garda. The name of this DOC derives from that of the homonymous hamlet of Desenzano del Garda, whose name in turn refers to the small church of San Martino and to the battle of 1859 that saw the Kingdom of Sardinia, allied with France, victorious over the Austrian Empire.
The ‘Tuchì’ Citari San Martino della Battaglia is a 100% Friulano from vines grown on clay-limestone soils of morainic origin particularly rich in substances minerals. After the harvest, carried out by hand in September, the bunches undergo a gentle pressing, with the resulting must being conveyed into stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation. The wine remains in steel to mature for several months on the fine lees, a factor that enhances its body and complexity.
The white wine San Martino della Battaglia ‘Tuchì’ from the Citari winery is a pale straw yellow color. On the nose, inviting notes of green apple, pear, and white flowers are perceived, as well as hints of lemon zest and dried fruit. Soft and enveloping on the palate, with lively freshness providing balance to the progression, anticipating the almond finish typical of the grape variety.
