"Sassirossi" by Masut da Rive is a Bordeaux blend made in Friuli with the classic international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. French grape varieties have been present for centuries in Friuli Venezia Giulia and express themselves at excellent quality levels. As is customary, the wine matures for a long time in barriques, softening youthful edges and giving greater harmony to the blend. It is an interesting label that offers an intense, rich, and complex wine, particularly suitable for pairing with roasted red meats or game.
The wine "Sassirossi" takes its name from a peculiarity of the soil where the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines are grown, rich in red clays and pebbles. A type of soil of ancient fluvial origin, which somewhat resembles Les Graves of the Bordeaux area. The grapes are hand-harvested and after destemming and soft pressing, fermentation proceeds with a long maceration on the skins and frequent pump-overs. After racking, the wine matures for 12 months in French oak barriques and completes the aging with a few months in bottle before being released for sale.
The "Sassirossi" is the label of Masut da Rive with the most international face. The use of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and the style of winemaking make it a red clearly inspired by Bordeaux. The color is intense ruby red, with youthful violet reflections. The aromatic profile is characterized by floral scents, with a slightly herbaceous note, aromas of small dark berries, plum, hints of underbrush, soft spices, and licorice root. On the palate, it has a good structure, with a dense and elegant tannic texture, a beautiful intensity and aromatic persistence. The finish is very harmonious and balanced.
