The Sauternes produced by Château Bastor-Lamontagne is a sweet wine, made with a skillful blend of white grape varieties traditionally grown in the area: Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle. From their perfect and complementary balance, an elegant and complex bouquet arises, with aromas of apricot, dried fruit, honeyed notes, and delicately moldy hints, which we find on the palate, with a soft and seductive sip, intense and enveloping that finishes with a fresh finale, providing a sensation of great taste balance.
The Sauternes Bastor-Lamontagne originates from the historic estate of the Château located near Preignac, in the heart of the Sauternes production area. It is a property of 56 hectares of vineyards, almost all part of a single large plot, characterized by the presence of precious soils with a significant silica component and rich in skeleton. The vines have an average age of 35-40 years and enjoy a very particular climatic situation, which during the beginning of autumn leads to the development of the fogs that foster the presence of Botrytis Cinerea. The famous noble mold attacks the grapes, dehydrating them and allowing the concentration of sugars and the development of complex aromas and the characteristic moldy notes, which constitute a sort of trademark for Sauternes wines. The harvest is done manually, with selection directly in the vineyard of only the clusters that show an optimal degree of ripeness and presence of Botrytis Cinerea. Fermentation takes place in wood, very slowly, and usually lasts 3 to 4 weeks. The wine is then aged in barriques for a period that can vary from 13 to 18 months. Bottling occurs without any clarification, only with a light filtration.
