Schiava 'Vernatsch 448 slm' Girlan 2025
The Schiava "Vernatsch 448 slm" by Girlan is a red wine from historic vineyards in Cornaio in Trentino Alto Adige. It features extraordinary roundness and very pleasant notes of violet, fresh rose, and strawberry, accompanied by aromas of dried fruit and almonds with light notes of sweet tobacco. On the palate, it is soft and elegant, with excellent freshness and great drinkability.
The Schiava “Vernatsch 448 slm” from the Girlan winery is a delicate, fresh, and light red wine produced in Cornaiano, in the province of Bolzano, in Alto Adige. This label is made from pure Schiava grapes sourced from vineyards located on hills, at an altitude of about 448 meters, characterized by excellent sun exposure and significant temperature variations between day and night. The vines, sheltered to the north by the Alps, are cultivated using the trellis method on soils predominantly sandy-clay and rich in minerals. The winery is a cooperative reality in South Tyrol that today counts on 200 member suppliers and about 215 hectares of vineyards, the result of a long-standing tradition and great success.
The “Vernatsch 448 slm” Schiava from Girlan is produced with carefully selected grapes harvested by hand in small containers at their ideal ripeness. The bunches, upon reaching the winery, are destemmed and gently pressed to undergo alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature with daily frequent pump-overs and a long maceration on the skins. Subsequently, the wine is separated from the skins through pressing, after which it remains in aging for several months in cement tanks before being bottled and finally ready for market release.

On the nose, intense aromas of red fruit and berries emerge, including cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, floral notes of rose and violets, light spicy hints of tobacco and pink pepper, and then shifting to hints of dried fruit, including almond.
