The ‘Sodi di San Niccolò’ is a great Tuscan red wine, a Supertuscan, made from Sangiovese grapes and a small part of Malvasia Nera, aged for 30 months in barrique. It has an elegant and robust personality, with soft and warm aromas, juicy scents, and velvety tannins. A great Supertuscan that in Magnum format will enhance an important meal even more!

The ‘Sodi di San Niccolò’ is the red wine most prestigious in the entire range produced by the Castellare di Castellina winery. It is a product that was born in 1977, whose name is linked to a particular memory. Paolo Panerai, the owner of the winery, was walking with the legendary Luigi Veronelli, who, admiring the ancient village with the church of San Niccolò at its center and the vineyard nearby, suggested to Paolo to name the flagship label after the place where it was produced, deeply rooting it with the land and the environment of origin. The word “Sodi” was then added accordingly, further strengthening the territoriality of this wine: with sodi, in fact, we refer to those hard and stony soils that characterize the company’s land.

This ‘Sodi di San Niccolò’ signed by Castellare di Castellina comes from a blend where, alongside a 90% of Sangiovese, we find a small percentage of Malvasia Nera. The vines of these two varieties are cultivated using the inverted guyot system, and grow in vineyards with organic management, where no pesticides are used, located at an altitude of about 350-400 meters above sea level and characterized by a calcareous subsoil. The grapes, after being harvested, which always takes place in the last half of October, ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, also undergoing malolactic fermentation. Then we move on to the aging phase, in which the wine rests in barriques, new at 50%, for a period ranging from 24 to 30 months.

The Castellare di Castellina ‘Sodi di San Niccolò’ develops in the glass with an intense, very deep garnet hue. On the nose, distinct and pleasant aromas of fruit, also in jam, are perceived, enriched by spicy notes, derived from the aging period spent in wood. On the palate, it has an excellent structure, with a round sip, characterized by a strong tannin, but perfectly integrated, and a fruity aftertaste. Castellare di Castellina produces an elegant and structured bottle, endowed with incredible freshness and a perfect tannic texture: an absolute reference point in the Tuscan wine scene.
