Spumante Metodo Classico Extra Brut Murgo 2016
Spumante Metodo Classico Extra Brut from the Murgo winery is a sparkling wine made from Nerello Mascalese aged for 5-6 years on the lees in the bottle. With a fine and persistent perlage, it is fresh, delicate on the palate, pleasantly mineral and floral, while the nose offers a bouquet of chamomile, broom, green apple and slight hints of hazelnut and bread crust due to the long aging on the lees. A bubbly of great elegance to accompany a special dinner!
The Spumante Metodo Classico Extra Brut Murgo is a high-end label that enhances the characteristics of Nerello Mascalese and the terroir of Etna. It is a Blanc de Noirs that captivates with its great freshness, combined with a rich complexity and aromatic persistence. The result of extensive experience in the field of sparkling wine production from a winery that was the first to believe in the potential of the volcano's bubbles, it expresses intense fruity aromas, enriched by refined evolving notes derived from a long aging on the lees. Due to its structure and expressive depth, it is a Metodo Classico suitable for being enjoyed at the table throughout the meal, with an important fish menu or with noble poultry and white meats on the spit.
The Metodo Classico Extra Brut is produced by the Murgo winery, a historic reference point for Etna wines, which today manages an estate of about 60 hectares with vineyards and olive groves. The agronomic management is inspired by the principles of organic farming and is carried out in respect of the natural ecosystem. The grapes come from the best plots of Nerello Mascalese from the estate, cultivated at a height of about 500 meters above sea level. The harvest takes place early compared to the complete ripening of the grapes in order to preserve freshness. A gentle pressing of the bunches follows. The free-run must is sent for fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 14 °C. The base wines rest in steel tanks for a period of 7-8 months before being blended to create the final cuvée. The second fermentation takes place in the bottle according to the Metodo Classico, with a long aging on the lees of 5 or 6 years.
The Extra Brut Murgo is a Metodo Classico of great expressive purity, which, thanks to the low dosage, enhances the elegant character of Nerello Mascalese and the stony and volcanic terroir of Etna. It has a beautiful bright light yellow color, with slight golden hues, and is characterized by a perlage of remarkable finesse and persistence. The olfactory profile is intense and refined, with aromas of broom, chamomile, herbal and balsamic notes, aromas of white peach, hints of bread crust, hazelnut, and toasted dried fruit. Clear and vertical, it impresses with its expressive tension and aromatic depth, culminating in a savory, long finish with vibrant mineral freshness.
