Susumaniello 'Serre' Due Palme 2022
Unusual grapesThe Susumaniello 'Serre' from the Due Palme winery shows itself to the nose in all its richness and breadth; the notes of ripe red fruit give way to spirits and hints of jam and graphite. The sip, thanks to the malolactic fermentation carried out in barrique and the aging of 6 months in wooden barrels, is soft, warm and enveloping
The "Serre" Susamaniello is a wine to discover, with which the Due Palme winery pays tribute to a grape that is little known at the national level, but has long been cultivated in Puglia. The Susamaniello, in fact, whose name derives from the great productivity of the plants in their youth, which causes the vines to load up with bunches, almost as if they were a donkey, is characterized by a great charge of anthocyanins, responsible for the impenetrable color with which this wine presents itself in the glass. A grape with a full and round body, as can be felt from the very first sips of this "Serre", a label that deserves the right space in the cellar of every enthusiast.
This "Serre" Susamaniello is born from the pure use of the homonymous grapes, whose origin is, almost certainly, Dalmatian. The grapes, hand-picked during the harvest phase and selected to ensure only the best of the terroir of origin, are macerated in silos of temperature-controlled horizontal rotators for 14 days, also undergoing alcoholic fermentation, at a maximum temperature of 20 degrees. Subsequently the wine is transferred to barriques, where it rests, undergoing malolactic fermentation, for a semester, at the end of which it is ready to be bottled and marketed.
The red wine “Serre” Susamaniello presents itself to the eye with a dark and deep color, reminiscent of shades of ruby red, characterized by a slight bluish reflection. The nose is dominated by sensations that mainly refer to ripe fruit, also in spirit or in jam. On the palate, it has an excellent body, broad, with a satisfying sip, characterized by warmth and softness. A bottle with which the Due Palme winery gives us a real wild card in the kitchen, where excellent critical scores combine with a price that is nothing short of interesting.
