VERDEJO 'CANTAYANO' ISAAC CANTALAPIEDRA 2021 DESCRIPTION

Isaac Cantalapiedra presents Verdejo 'Cantayano,' a territorial expression with an incredible value for money. The Castilian Cantalapiedra family has been passing on viticultural passion and winemaking knowledge in the Rueda area for three generations. It all began in 1949 with Heliodoro, who grew grapes destined to be sold, later joined by his son Isaac. The turning point came in 2014 with the entry of Manuel, Heliodoro's grandson, who decided to start his own independent bodega together with his father. Most of the winery's vineyard area is devoted to Verdejo, Rueda's iconic white grape variety.

Cantalapiedra Viticultores Verdejo 'Cantayano' consists of the pure grape of the same name, from vines between 20 and 30 years old rooted on soils formed by clay, sand and limestone, with plenty of stones. Agronomic management is implemented in accordance with organic farming, supplemented by biodynamic practices. After manual harvesting, a brief 24-hour maceration on the skins takes place, followed by alcoholic fermentation conducted by indigenous yeasts. Vinification is carried out almost exclusively in steel tanks, except for a small portion that ferments in used French oak barrels. The following 8-month aging period on fine lees is also carried out partly in steel and partly in wood, without batonnage.

To the eye, Isaac Cantalapiedra Verdejo 'Cantayano' takes on a deep straw yellow color. Fruity hints of pear, white peach and kiwi fruit follow on the nose, enriched by mineral notes. Vibrant and refreshing on the palate, agile and salty, with a persistent finish that is very consistent with the nose.
