Mesa winery's Vermentino di Sardegna "Giunco" is a fruity, fresh and broad white wine produced in Sant'Anna Arresi, Sardinia. This label is made from pure Vermentino grapes from vineyards located in the Sulcis area, in the southwestern part of the island, which is characterized by low rainfall distributed irregularly throughout the year and frequent maestrale winds. The vines are trained using the espalier method with guyot pruning on soils of alluvial origin, originating in the Pleistocene, rich in skeleton and characterized by loamy-clay soils. The winery, which owns about 70 hectares under vine, was founded in 2004 by Gavino Sanna, a publicist and entrepreneur of Sardinian origin who, in love with his land, decided to invest in a winemaking reality in which natural rhythms reign in an indissoluble union of tradition and respect for the territory.
Mesa's "Giunco" Vermentino di Sardegna is made from carefully selected grapes harvested by hand in boxes between late August and early September. The clusters, brought to the winery, are chilled at a temperature of about 10 °C for at least 48 hours before being destemmed and softly pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel containers at a controlled temperature of 15-18 °C for several weeks, after which the wine is aged on its fine lees for at least 4 months before being bottled and continuing its aging in the bottle for at least another month before release.
Mesa's "Giunco" wine shows a beautiful bright straw yellow color to the eye. Intense aromas of white-fleshed fruit and tropical fruit appear on the nose, including peach and mango, floral notes of white flowers, such as jasmine, citrusy hints of orange peel, and then veer to hints of Mediterranean scrub and iodine. In the mouth it is snappy, balanced and enveloping, connoted by a nice freshness, at times savory, and a finish played on fruity hints. This white from the Mesa winery is a wine of great pleasantness, rich and concentrated but at the same time fresh and thirst-quenching.
