The Vernatxa Negra ‘La Bestia’ from the artisan estate Terra 00 is a Spanish label that stands out for its crisp fruity and floral aromatic profile. The Vernatxa Negra is the common name in the wine region of Terra Alta to identify Garnacha Tinta, a black grape variety cultivated in the Mediterranean basin and known, among others, by the synonyms Grenache Noir, Garnatxa, and Alicante, but should not be confused with Alicante Bouschet, a standalone grape variety.
‘La Bestia’ Vernatxa Negra Terra 00 is a 100% Vernatxa Negra grown in soils rich in sand and white silt. The agronomic management adopted by Joan R. Bada and Josep Arrufat, founders of the Terra 00 winery, follows the principles of organic farming, supplemented by biodynamic practices. Once the grapes reach maturity, they are harvested entirely by hand in crates, and in the winery, a classic red winemaking process takes place in stainless steel tanks, with spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in contact with the skins. Subsequently, the liquid is transferred to 1,000-liter terracotta amphorae where it rests for 9 months until the final bottling. Throughout the entire production process, both clarification or filtration operations and the use of sulfites are excluded, which are not added at any stage of the processing.
In the glass, the Terra 00 Vernatxa Negra ‘La Bestia’ shows an intense cherry red color. On the nose, fruity hints of blackberry, strawberry, raspberry, and cherry follow one another, enriched by notes of Mediterranean herbs and hints of rose and violet. Taste progression intense and juicy, characterized by a soft body and a pleasantly tannic and refreshing finish where the fruity and floral perceptions sensed on the nose reappear.
