The Vespolina 'La Mostella' from Torraccia del Piantavigna is a red wine from northern Piemonte based on one of the most interesting native grape varieties in the area. The vines are located on clay soils, responsible for the greater structure of the final wine. Usually light, a Vespolina wine can also be intense, just like 'La Mostella'. Hints of red fruits meet balsamic and spicy notes on the finish. The sip is fresh and tannic, with a pleasant slightly bitter finish, very typical of the variety. To be tried with typical dishes such as donkey stew

The Piedmont winery Torraccia del Piantavigna presents the Vespolina 'La Mostella', a red wine that highlights the typical spicy character of the variety. Vespolina, also known by the synonym Ughetta in Oltrepò Pavese, has been cultivated since at least the 18th century in the Alto Piemonte region, where it is traditionally used in blends with other grapes, such as Nebbiolo. For this reason, finding single-varietal versions is rather rare, and Torraccia del Piantavigna is among the few producers that have decided to focus strongly on this grape, which many producers avoid due to its difficult cultivation. The curious name Vespolina seems to derive from the fact that wasps are particularly fond of this grape once it reaches full ripeness.

'La Mostella' Colline Novaresi Vespolina by Torraccia del Piantavigna originates from only Vespolina grapes grown according to the principles of integrated pest management within the Ghemme territory. The rows are planted in acidic soil consisting of fluvial-alluvial clay, and the harvest is carried out by hand in crates. This is followed by a gentle pressing of the grapes, with the must undergoing alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks with maceration on the skins at low temperatures. The subsequent aging phase, which lasts for 12 months, also takes place in steel.

The bright ruby color of the Vespolina 'La Mostella' Colline Novaresi from Torraccia del Piantavigna expresses aromas of cherry, raspberry, currant, mint, underbrush, and black pepper on the nose. The palate is very fresh and tannic, with a fragrant and pleasantly bitter finish that lingers long, accompanied by peppery and fruity sensations consistent with the aromas perceived on the nose.
